Talent is a critical issue for tech companies here in the region, so we’re actively trying to help our members by expanding our services.
Finding talent is one aspect of the challenge, but there’s more to it, so we’re creating partnerships and programs around attraction, retention and development.
Tech Week Job Fairs
We host an annual job fair during Tech Week each April, in association with the Greater Cleveland Partnership. Details on the 2016 job fair will be released in Spring 2016; here are pictures from our the 2015 event.
We also actively represent our members as the voice of IT in a variety of ways. We have board seats at nearly every university in Northeast Ohio. We’re charter board members of Regional IT Engagement. RITE’s mission is proactively attracting, preparing and placing I.T. talent through dynamic industry, educator and community collaboration.
Since 2008, we've awarded more than $88,000 to area high school students who've participated in our annual coding competition.
The CoolTech Challenge has become one of the premier coding competitions in NE Ohio. This competition is different from others in that it allows the students to choose something they want to do, rather than have something assigned to them. The CoolTech Challenge is helping students in high school become more aware of the IT industry in NE Ohio and gives students the opportunity to win funds for college.
Relationships with Regional Higher Education Institutes
With seven successful Talent talks during Tech Week, we are planning on expanding these to more colleges and universities, as well as, look to partner with other local members and businesses into more ways to expose our students to the great IT industry in NE Ohio. Employee Development and Retention
Enhancing employees skill sets is important to tech companies, IT is ever-changing and our members need to respond to those changes, so we're leveraging relationships, locally and nationally, to bring focused training resources to our members.
Additionally, OHTec actively engages with regional organizations supporting a deeper talent pool in Northeast Ohio.
As a member of the Technology Councils of North America (TecNA), OHTec has access to a variety of development programs from CompTIA. As a service to our members, we have launched a strategic partnership with CompTIA that gives the members a discount on certifications and content for your employees.
